Extreme precise staging in magic-hour twilight are two of the key ingredients for the jaw-dropping pictures of Gregory Crewdson.
What a surprise to stumble upon the documentary by Ben Shapiro just zapping around in a lost quarter of time. The documentary is filmed over a period of then years, showing the artistic processes behind
the visual stories flowing with despair, mystery and longing of small town American life. The pictures, or better cinematic narratives, are either shot on location in desolate streets or exquisitly recreated on a soundstage from scratch. None of the meticulous preparation work degrades in anyway the fascinating intrigue of the pictures.
To me it even adds-up and the photographs are becoming more and more intriguing. Did I say jaw-dropping!
